This building supplies group is a highly profitable, financially strong business with group turnover of c£140million and a realistic target of reaching over £200million in the next three years. To help the business achieve its goals a strong, entrepreneurial and forward thinking CEO is required to work with the Executive Chairman and original founder on a succession plan to take the organization to the next level.

The successful candidate will be an experienced, go-getting individual with high influencing skills, credibility, stamina and persistence.

Branch Managers all have an equity share in their branch and all employees are able to participate in a profit share. This entrepreneurial approach means that the business has decentralized operations with support for the Branch network provided in a number of positive ways from a central location.

The most important aspect of getting the right person for this role will be cultural fit. The right person will have an empathy with people and will be naturally entrepreneurial. He/she will be able to get the most out of the branch teams, pushing them to be willing to go “the extra mile.” The CEO will spend a great deal of time visiting branches, supporting sales and margin growth, helping them to acquire new customers, selling and maintaining the right product mix, and helping them to find and train the right team. The ability to develop great relationships with colleagues, suppliers and customers are important pre-requisites.

At operational level the remit is to bring a proactive, ‘can do’ mentality with specialist support, knowledge and skills, to help Branch Directors at each of the 37 existing branches stretch towards and meet new and challenging goals. At Board level the remit is to ensure the business stays a step ahead of its competitors, wins market share, and grows the branch network further in conjunction with the Executive Chairman.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a well-rounded business education and the character, autonomy and business training that will enable them to take tough decisions when necessary. Ideally the successful candidate will have experience gained in a building materials or related growing retail/branch-based distribution business. This will not be a typical nine-to-five existence and the rewards will be commensurate with the effort and abilities required in a private-equity backed business like this including the potential for taking a significant equity stake.
