Full-Time Head of Communications and Networks

Reporting to the Engineering Director, The Head of Profession: Communication and Networks will be responsible for providing technical leadership and guidance to the existing teams within Networks including (but not limited to) the following as well as setting and implementing the overall strategy for the development of technical competence to meet existing and future client requirements and enhancing our clients’ reputation in the discipline:
Next Generation Broadband systems;
Passive telecommunications infrastructure;
Wireless and radio systems
Active data communications systems;
Voice and telephony systems;
Telemetry networks and Data centres
In addition to the above, it is envisaged that considerable time will be spent interfacing with clients at very senior levels. It is therefore expected that the post holder will be able to represent in a highly professional and effective manner, and to instil confidence in both clients and staff.
Within the Networks environment, the post additionally involves:
Working with Business Development colleagues to identify existing and future, emerging client
Ensuring that bids led by the Business Development function have appropriate domain specific technical support;
Secure work through existing client relationships in instances where bids aren’t being managed by the Business Development function;
Liaising closely with selected equipment vendors to identify appropriate technology road maps;
Provision of line management of capability leaders.
Appropriate engineering degree (or equivalent),
Comprehensive understanding of capabilities and trends in a wide range of ICT technologies;
Ability to make sound technical decisions and to manage/co-ordinate difficult assignments;
Ability to develop productive working relationships with key clients and suppliers at all levels;
A proven ability to effectively lead and manage highly competent and technically focussed engineers and teams;
A good understanding of project delivery mechanisms and resourcing requirements.
Provision of line management to capability leaders;
Liaise closely with the UK Operations Manager to achieve the required levels of productivity of the Networks staff;
Management of technical assurance, governance and QA within Networks;
Work with BD to identify clients’ existing and future needs and requirements;
Act as senior point of contact on technical issues with existing and prospective clients;
Develop and manage Network discipline “thought leadership” position;
Define and develop the technical competencies required within the Networks discipline;
